Colon Cancer
Colon
Cancer is the second most common cancer in the USA. Our present
knowledge points to carcinogens in our diets as a promoter of
colon cancer: preservatives, processed food, high fat, and low
fiber diets.
Rectal bleeding is
a common symptom, but not the only one. Ten percent of patients
that present with rectal bleeding have significant pathology,
and 6% will have some neoplastic process.
Early detection is
the only way to improve successful results in the treatment
of disease.
Evaluation of this
condition is aided by proctoscopy, rectal ultrasonography, colonoscopy,
barium enema, and cat scans.
